Maheen Shermohammed is a Senior Behavioral Designer at ideas42 within the Economic Justice portfolio. There, she applies behavioral science research to design, test, and implement interventions targeted at improving the lives of people facing economic hardship and changing the conversation around poverty.
Before ideas42, Maheen worked as a Staff Scientist in the Behavioral Insights Team at Geisinger Health System. She also spent a year backpacking across the globe: you can find her travel blog here.
Maheen is an expert in experiment design, R programming, statistical analysis, and data visualization. She completed her Ph.D. in Psychology at Harvard University, where she used brain imaging techniques to study how people process emotions in challenging circumstances. She also founded Harvard’s Women in Psychology group, a 60+ member organization that promotes diversity and inclusion in the psychological sciences. Before graduate school, Maheen conducted research at MIT, where she managed scientific studies on topics including memory, autism, ADHD, and mild traumatic brain injury. Maheen holds a B.S. in Neuroscience from Duke University.
